Dear Mr…

ABS – NEW DATABASE –

RENEWABLE CAPACITY FORECASTS DATABASE

2009‏

Melany Krangle (melanykrangle@absenergyresearch.com)

Fri 3/20/09

ABS has just launched a new database as part of its renewable energy portfolio:

Renewable Capacity Forecasts Database

This database refers to electricity generating capacity, not primary energy, so it does not include for example the huge biomass resources of a country such as India, but only the capacity generating power. This is a power generating sector for which data is not as readily available as for the conventional sources and technologies. Many countries are setting renewable targets as part of their environmental policies as percentages of electricity generation by a future date. The database contains average capacity factor for each technology. Data is recorded historically from 1990 and forecast to 2020.

This database contains tables of electricity generating capacity by renewable sources, shown individually by resource and consolidated into the global total of 1,310 GW in 2009.

·         Hydro

·         Wind

·         Solar PV

·         Solar thermal

·         Biomass

·         Ocean energy

·         Geothermal

·         Total renewable generating capacity
