Monday Report

**Last Week’s Market Recap

(September 18 to September 21)**

The market took a sharp hit at the beginning of the week as investors were discouraged by the Bank of England making an emergency injection of funds to rescue mid-sized banks in the U.K. as well as the filingof consumer finance company Credia Co., Ltd. for bankruptcy protection under the Civil RehabilitationLaw, which caused a selloff of mainly bank, securities company, and other finance-related shares. Later, the market surged back as a large jump in U.S. stockmarkets brought about by the Federal Reserve Board lowering the federal funds rate 0.5% encouraged many investors to buy a wide array of issues on the dip.Towards the end of the week, however, the market grew sluggish as investors held off on purchases ahead of the three-day weekend as well as a high-yen/low-dollar trend. The TOPIX rose by 7.36 points (0.48%) from the previous week to close at 1,552.07.Average daily trading volume decreased by 41 million shares to 1.803 billion shares. Average daily trading value decreased by 127.0 billion JPY from the previous week to2.5378 trillion JPY. **Stock Rankings by Trading Value (September 18 to September 21)** Name Trading Value Ending Price JPY Change from(code) (100 million JPY) JPY previous week MIZUHO FINANCIAL GROUP, INC.(8411) 3,915 610,000 -47,000 Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group(8306) 2,531 1,010,000 -30,000 SUMITOMO METAL MINING CO., LTD.(5713) 2,273 2,770 350 SUMITOMO MITSUI FINANCIAL GROUP, INC.(8316) 2,125 783,000 -38,000 TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION(7203) 1,946 6,560 30 CANON INC.(7751) 1,723 6,150 160 NIPPON STEEL CORP.(5401) 1,670 822 46 MITSUBISHI CORPORATION(8058) 1,531 3,560 210 MITSUI & CO.LTD.(8031) 1,332 2,680 235 NOMURA HOLDINGS, INC.(8604) 1,295 1,773 -88 **Changes in TSE Indices (Closing value – September 21; Change from previous week)** Index Close Change Change(percent) (points) TOPIX 1552.07 0.48% 7.36Large 1629.71 0.76% 12.22Medium 1565.16 -0.03% -0.44Small 2066.27 0.15% 3.00 Stock price index by industry
