Development Act 2006: A Review and Discussion Led by Shri Jawhar Sircar

About the Seminar:

Mr Sircar, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner, Small Scale Industries (SSI), Government of India, will provide an in-depth explanation of the fundamental new Act concerning India’s MSME sector.

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Act of 2006, issued in July 2006 and enacted in October 2006, will greatly impact the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Sector. The Act introduces a standardized definition of MSMEs, new penalties for late payments to MSMEs, and a simplified registration process for these enterprises.

Mr Sircar will provide an overall view of the purposes and impact of the Act, as well as providing opportunities for stakeholders to raise questions and concerns about the implications of the Act. Mr. Sircar will also suggest areas for future development of the Government of India’s policy towards SMEs.

The presentation will be followed by interactive discussion with multiple stakeholders from industrial, financial, and academic backgrounds.
